Yeah, I don't even have a hand blender or anything, and I have not been shy about making stuff by hand. Honestly, there aren't a lot of cookie recipes where you actually need a mixer. There are definitely some kinds of cake and custardy things where you need to incorporate a lot of air and it's really hard without the Kitchenaid. I'm also really psyched about the dough hook, because I'm afraid of kneading, but I want to try to make my own bread.

Ina uses her Kitchenaid for stuff I wouldn't ever, like muffins, which you're not supposed to overmix. My baking idol is Anna Olsen of Sugar, which I used to watch every morning before work.

One great recipe you can make is Smitten's chocolate chip cookie bars. I think theyre call blondies or something on her website. Ive made them just how she says, Ive also made them with raspberry jello powder and bits of Toblerone and they were AMAZING.

I find that most recipes can be made without a KitchenAid, unless they involve things like whipped cream or meringue - things that are possible to do by hand but take forever and are generally a huge pain in the ass. Ina Garten uses hers for everything. Giada never uses one. And that French Cooking at home lady (Julia Calder I think her name is) uses her immersion blender excessively. No idea why Im writing all this, except Ive been watching the Food Network at the gym.
