No worries, you definitely don't lose cred with me. I honestly started writing about him because there was something that kind of made me uneasy about his movies, and I wanted to figure out what it was, and then I couldn't stop. The only one I genuinely love is Law of Desire (and if I'm being honest, High Heels); the rest of them I sort of had to get used to and think about a lot, and I still think most critical accounts don't really get him right. He started out as this kind of Warhol-ish/John Waters-type guy doing Super 8 movies called things like "Fuck me, fuck me Tim", and I think he's retained a lot of sort of subtle purposeful unpleasantness along with all the lighter stuff, even now. Anyway, I think he's a really complicated and interesting director (obviously), but I don't think that not liking him is a huge aesthetic failing.

Age of Innocence, I just want to watch over and over again.

I'm going to loose all my credibility with you, but I'm seriously not a fan of Almodovar. I find his films to be abrasive and unpleasant. I know it goes against all my sensibilities...I love Spanish films, I love camp, I love women, I love bright colors and over-the-top drama, but for some reason, I can't get down with Almo. I saw Women on the Verge a few months ago, and wanted to like it so badly...but didn't. Now the Age of Innocence, that I loved. I'm not as versed in film-lingo and techniques but, uh... it was good-like. In the name of full-disclosure: I'm a complete whore for Daniel Day Lewis. It would have to be a trash-bomb for me to not be completely dazzled.
