I really liked parts of this — I think architectural theory and so forth is really interesting — but I kind of felt it was straddling this weird line between a more rigourous academic work and a popular one. It’s sort of a Harper’s magazine article with occasional mentions of Heidegger and Barthes. It’s not that it was hard to follow, I just wish he’d staked out his own position a little more clearly, as opposed to just putting on different hats for different chapters. (Also: the film chapter was fun, but it wasn’t great as film criticism per se.)
